The first manned launch of this year takes place against the backdrop of the new coronavirus pandemic. The rocket took off from the 31st site from the launch complex “Vostok” at 11:05am Bulgarian time towards the International Space Station (ISS).
The crew consists of Russian cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Wagner and NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy.
The ship will fly to the station under a six-hour scheme, performing four laps around the Earth. The docking of the ship is scheduled for today, April 9 at 17:15 Bulgarian time.
Commander of the new expedition will be Cassidy, for whom this flight is third in his career. Ivanishin will also head into orbit for the third time. Wagner had never done space flights before.

The Russian Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the manned Soyuz MS-16" ship launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, with the launch streaming live from the Roscosmos site, TASS and BTA reported.
