Chinese weather modification drone made its maiden flight

China's first weather-modifying drone “Ganlin-1” carried out its maiden flight successfully from Jinchang Airport in Gansu province, Radio China reported.
It is the first unmanned aerial vehicle to modify the country's weather. During the 30-minute flight, the drone was functioning normally.

The project was launched in March 2019 to help increase rainfall and snowfall in the Cillien mountain range as this region often suffers from water shortages, a local meteorological administration official said.

Ganlin-1 can fly in remote mountainous areas under complex geographical and weather conditions and automatically makes route adjustments when sowing clouds. The maximum flight duration is 14 hours, with a range of 5000 km. The apparatus is able to accurately detect the appropriate areas for increasing precipitation.
