HY-2C will team up with HY-2B, which was launched into orbit in October 2018, and the next Y-2D satellite. They will form a network for precise monitoring of the marine environment, including the sea surface, wave height, water color.
HY-2C and the Changzhen-4B rocket were developed by the Chinese Space Science and Technology Corporation, and its operations are under the control of China's Ministry of Natural Resources.
China launches another ocean surveillance satellite
On Monday afternoon, China launched the HY-2C satellite with the Changzhen-4B carrier rocket into orbit. It is the country's third satellite for ocean observations and the second of space-based infrastructure to monitor ocean dynamics, Radio China reported.
